Adventures - at 70!...

24th September, 2021.

In the 1960s Easingwold School (as it was then called) had an Explorers Club and a high reputation for encouraging outdoor pursuits and adventures. This has obviously had a lasting effect on “The Richards girls” - Anne (now Kaneko), Liz (now Conway), Jill (now Barry) and Jane (now Johnson). Today they are scattered from Aberdeen to Buckinghamshire but the spirit of adventure lives on. Recently Liz wrote the following to friends and acquaintances: I have a big 70th birthday coming up but instead of parties, holidays of a lifetime or birthday presents, I have decided to take on the challenge of walking ‘The Yorkshire 3 Peaks’ with my ‘Sherpa’ support family. I am doing this tough 24 mile walk taking in the 3 peaks of Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-Y-Ghent on Sunday, 12 September 2021.........

Kick Start for The Boot Shop...

24th September, 2021.

Local resident, Penny Howard, was all smiles this week as she caught up with Brian Timmins from Easingwold’s Chapel Street charity, The Boot Shop. “This time two years ago I was training body and soul for the Great North Run in aid of The Boot Shop, and I’m repeating it this year,” she explains, “It will be my 14th time running this half marathon – am I mad? We’ll see! I’m determined to do my best even though there’ll be new challenges this year with a slightly altered course” (due to new Covid restrictions). Penny took time out of her strenuous training schedule to pop into The Boot Shop to see how they’ve been spending some of the £1,500 funds raised by the generous people of Easingwold and UKi Direct, local business insurance broker, who sponsored her 21.1km (13.7miles) run in 2019.........

Easingwold 1st XI Cricket Finish Season in Style...

17th September, 2021.

Easingwold 1st XI (30) 116-1 (S Piercy 37, T Wilson 45*) beat Osbaldwick (1) 114 all out (Z Wilson 4-29) by 9 wickets. Last weekend, Easingwold welcomed already relegated Osbaldwick to Back Lane for the final fixture of the season. In keeping with the theme of the season, Tom Wilson won the toss, and decided that the hosts would bowl first. After wrapping up the title last week, it was perhaps understandable that there was a slight drop in intensity from Easingwold, who made a fairly sloppy start with the ball, in particular conceding far many more extras than they would have being comfortable with. Despite the low key start, Zac Wilson did begin to find his radar, and was rewarded with the first two wickets to fall, leaving Osbaldwick 39-2 after 7 overs. Paul Skilbeck (1-23) inflicted further damage to the visitors in the next over without any addition to the score, as the match suddenly looked to be going with the form book with the hosts well on top........
