After a successful few summer months when we ran Thursday night youth club sessions outside and Wednesday afternoon summer activities sessions on mill field we have now had to stop sessions at Cozie Due to the new restrictions. We have ,however, continued to offer detached youth work in the form of our two youth leaders, Emily and Martha, walking around Easingwold and talking to youngsters on Thursday evenings . As you can see our leaders are difficult to miss in their wonderful new pink hoodies and they have been able to talk to the youngsters and discuss projects they might be interested in. This has resulted in the Cozie team handing out pumpkins for the Easingwold pumpkin trail....

Easingwold and District U3A...

30th October, 2020.

#

We were Zooming again this month for our monthly meeting and it does look as if that is the pattern for the next several months. We are also having a bit of fun at the end of the meeting by going into ‘Break-out Rooms’ which means you chat with 2 or 3 other members. That feels a bit more like what we are used to at our monthly meetings. This month our talk was about the Army Flying Museum in Middle Wallop in Hampshire. Dan Ball told us that they have 35 different aircraft including a glider used by the Royal Flying Corps in WW1, a Beaver used in the Middle East and Aden, an Islander which was a troop carrier in the late 80’s to 90’s and a Spitfire. The Centre was reopened in April last year after Lottery funding allowed renovation of the museum. It now includes a new archive centre, new aircraft linked with personal stories and new artefacts on display. A new programme for volunteering, education and outreach has been developed as has an oral history project to record experiences. Back in the late 1850’s balloons were built using ox intestines and filled with hydrogen. 2 men would be in the basket suspended beneath and would be allowed to float up but still tethered to the ground. They observed and recorded what they could see. The balloon would be moved and the process repeated in a different spot. They still wore the bright red jackets of the militaryin those days....

Sports Project Completed At Outwood Academy Easingwold...

23rd October, 2020.

#

Some welcome good news for Easingwold after the announcement that work has been completed on a sports project, complete with a new state-of-the-art 3G sports pitch and sports hall, at a North Yorkshire academy. The pitch at Outwood Academy Easingwold was made possible thanks to investment from the Premier League, The FA and Government's Football Foundation and funds donated from Hambleton District Council, Easingwold Town AFC, and the Friends of Easingwold School. The pitch at York Road-based academy is part of a multi-million pounds sports project that includes the construction of a new sports hall. The bulk of the money for the project was provided by Outwood Grange Academies Trust, the academy’s sponsor. The completion of the sports pitch means Outwood Academy Easingwold is the home of a high-quality 3G sports pitch which would benefit and serve sportspeople and sporting teams from around the wider community. The new completed sports hall at Outwood Academy Easingwold will provide a four court facility, with separate male and female changing rooms. Each side has accessible individual shower cubicles and internal entrances for wet/dry changing. The building will also have a reception area to supervise the out of hours community use of the new sports hall. Laura Eddery, Principal at Outwood Academy Easingwold, said: “We are delighted to announce that our sports project is now complete and we are excited for our sports pitch and sports hall to be in use. “We are proud that we are bringing excellent facilities to the community and for the use of those within the community. We believe the pitch and sports hall will be vital to improving grassroots sport in the area by allowing local people to play a variety of sports in a safe environment in facilities that are fit for purpose....

EASINGWOLD TOWN COUNCIL UPDATE...

23rd October, 2020.

#

• Volunteers have completed work on extending and widening the existing horseshoe path at Millfields to create a wheelchair friendly jogging/walking path that will also be part of the Park Run circuit once it resumes.
• A public consultation on the lighting of the path will take place when social distancing rules allow. The consultation will also ask for views about the possible introduction of a trim trail around the path and bike skills/jumps track on rough grassland opposite the skate park.
• The rugby posts have been removed from Millfields because of Health and Safety concerns. There are no plans to replace them as they were so rarely used.
• A large notice board is being installed near the Millfields car park.
• Based on expert nature conservation advice, plans are in place to cut 80% of Millfields north and south meadows on an annual rotational basis and to prepare the wildflower border for reseeding.
• A friendship garden is being designed for implementation close to the car park now that a suitable area of that low-lying land has been raised.
• An enclosed dog exercise and fun area will be established when some more of that lower lying land can also be raised
• The Vehicle Activate Speed Signs (VAS) are being rotated around our busier roads and monitored for their effectives on improving driver behaviour. Data is passed on to the police who may wish to take enforcement action as necessary. The data indicates that the signs have had a positive effect on reducing speeding.
• Work is progressing on the project to construct new, and repair existing, footpaths across the cobbles in the Town Centre to ensure there is good accessibility all around this area. Detailed construction plans have been drawn up and we will be carrying out appropriate consultations as soon as possible.
• Work has started on upgrading the ladies and disabled toilets....

Lazy Dog Walkers leave a little present...

23rd October, 2020.

#

A reader from Wass sent in these photos of a bag of dog poo left in a hired skip situated on private property. These days skips tend to be recycled with contents sifted with as little as possible ending up in landfill (if at all). It is rather bad that some lazy dog walker could not be bothered to dispose of their dog mess properly, privately hired skips or other people waste bins are not the places...

Easingwold Town U7’s...

16th October, 2020.

#

So far the U7’s have played three opponents, each time playing a league fixture followed by a friendly match. The squad continues to grow and now compromises of 22 players. Selection for the 5-a-side matches, whilst balancing player and team development, can be challenging. However, already 11 squad members have represented Easingwold Town U7’s. The three fixtures have all been extremely even, with opposition coaches showing the same passion for player development as our two dedicated coaches: Andy Bulleyment and Paul Floyd...

SUPPORT FOR SMALL BUSINESSES SCHEME IN HAMBLETON...

16th October, 2020.

#

Hambleton District Council has so far helped 270 small business owners to join the Federation of Small Businesses(FSB) but there is still room for more. The FSB provides access to an £30 discount by waiving the joining fee whilst the district council provides a £50 subsidy towards the cost of membership making it affordable to small business. HDC was the first local authority to join forces with the FSB in the UK five years ago and a funding package was secured to enable 300 Hambleton new members to join the discounted scheme over five years. Leader of the Council, Councillor Mark Robson said; “They can access advice and guidance on a whole range of services that are often very expensive to provide for a small operation. FSB’s membership is tailored to the smaller business and is great value for money – even more so with our financial support and I urge other small businesses to join the scheme before the funding runs out. Some members join for the networking, some for the 24 legal helpline and others for being part of a larger group of businesses that helps them develop and succeed. During the last six months businesses have faced many challenges, but knowing the support is out there makes all the difference to them...

Easingwold in Bloom 2020...

9th October, 2020.

#

What a strange year it’s been due to the COVID 19 pandemic. It certainly has made a difference when it came to judging Easingwold in Bloom. Due to the lockdown and older and vulnerable people shielding, this meant that people were not able to get out and buy their plants or potter in their gardens. However, for those that were able to do so there were some lovely displays around. I also saw a little bee curled up in one of my own flow ers fast asleep having done its work for the day...

‘Fields and Lanes’ under the ‘Willow Tree’ – The Community Library...

2nd October, 2020.

#

On Sunday 27th, a socially distanced capacity audience were treated to a wonderful performance by the creative couple Jessa and Mick Liversidge. Jessa’s uplifting songs ranged from Beatles classics through Carole King to Sting and his ‘Fields of Gold’. Mick’s poetry was also so varied ranging from Spike Milligan through DH Lawrence to ‘Business Girls’ by Sir John Betjeman. The highlight for me was a Victoria Wood poem titled ‘Love Song’ which Jessa and Mick performed as a combo. The selection of songs and poems stole the hour away and Jessa/Mick performed without a microphone. They did however make full use of the WI bench, leaning, sitting and standing on it! What made the concert so inspiring was the delivery by the very talented coupl...
