Huby WI...
26th November, 2021.
Well, November’s meeting was different when Huby’s very own, multi-talented Carole Smith demonstrated the ease of making Christmas decorations. We watched with open mouthed amazement as she showed numerous completed items.
Certainly, it was the right theme to encourage us all to ‘deck the halls’ with home made décor. The selected item we all attempted to make was sure to fill the home with cheer. Despite being daunting for those who would sooner cartwheel to the shop to buy rather than summon the patience to complete any craft article we selected colours & were ready to get started.........

Christmas Tree Tales of the Unexpected...
26th November, 2021.
It’s an annual tradition at Brambly Hedge Forest School to come to Dawnay Farm Christmas trees so recently they paid us a visit.
The excited voices of the children were a joyful thing to hear as they walked along the path of Elf Wood & into the Christmas Tree field. Wearing different festive & fun hats they made a very colourful picture.
Eventually after much deliberation (because choosing the perfect tree is not to be rushed) everyone agreed upon a big bushy 10ft Norway Spruce with a lovely Christmassy scent.........

Cozie outing to Polar Express Friday 5th November...
19th November, 2021.
Not only was last Friday Bonfire night but it was a special night for us at Cozie. We had hired the EDCCA minibus to take 13 young people with Alan driving and Sam assisting.
Mark took his car with the 3 girls so our party was 16 young people with 3 adults, all ready for an adventure. Our youth club had managed to secure tickets to see the Polar Express on the Wensleydale railway.
Alan and Sam had donned pyjamas to get into the spirit of the evening and some of the young people came wearing theirs too.
We drove up to Leeming Bar to meet the train there, we parked up then walked across the road to the platform to await the train. We saw it approaching and then we boarded.
Everyone excitedly took their seats ready for the adventure to begin.........

Remembrance day - Tholthorpe...
19th November, 2021.
As in previous years 1st Kyle Valley Scout Group chose to commemorate Remembrance day in the heart of our community, just down the road from our Scout hut, at Tholthorpe War Memorial.
The memorial commemorates, amongst others, the many RAF personnel who lost their lives flying night bombing raids from Tholthorpe Airfield.
The service was attended by the son of one such airman.
The Scouts understand the gravity of these ceremonies and I was extremely proud of the way they conducted themselves.........

Armistice Day Outwood Academy Easingwold...
19th November, 2021.
Mr Price (Head of Technology) at Outwood Academy Easingwold had the inspiration of the Poppy Installation when seeing how other schools marked Armistice day. He felt that within every school there are links to the armed forces and we wanted to pay our respects to those that have fallen in war and to those who continue to make sacrifices every day.
Mr Price and Mr Warriner (DT Technician) have repurposed plastic bottles from the School canteen and donations from students to produce the poppies. Mr Warriner made the silhouettes of the soldiers and a team of 25 students every morning before School making the poppies for the last three weeks in time for armistice day. We will take the poppies down in next two weeks and preserve them for next year where will come up with a different display for the School community to take part in.........

Happy 70th Birthday Wise Owl...
12th November, 2021.
On Tuesday 2nd of November, the girls from 1st Sutton on the Forest Brownie Unit all rallied together & manage to pull off a surprise party to celebrate Wise Owl’s 70th birthday. The brownies turned up in their favourite party outfits, ladened with beautiful cards and gifts which they couldn’t wait to give to Wise Owl.
Wise Owl had no idea at all, so was thrilled to see a party waiting for her, instead of the usual meeting she was expecting. Everybody enjoyed a game of pass the parcel, musical statues and of course a slice of delicious cake! The unit are very grateful to Emily Thompson (previous Brownie, aged 12) and her grandma, Linda, for very kindly making the cake for us.........

Sonia Sabri Company is one of UK’s leading dance and music companies and they came to the Community Library to perform a family show called ‘Same Same… But Different’.
The three young dancers Katie, George and AJ were brilliant! IT’S THE FINAL BRICK IN THE WALL FOR LOYAL DENIS...
5th November, 2021.
Denis Throup, one of the York Handmade Brick Company’s longest-serving and most loyal employees, is retiring.
Denis, who is 65, has spent half his life at the award-winning brick manufacturing company, based at Alne, near Easingwold.
He joined York Handmade as a general labourer in 1989, just one year after the company was formed.
“This was a new departure for me at the time,” recalled Denis, who is originally from Husthwaite but now lives in Haxby, near York. “I had spent the first part of my working life as a gamekeeper, first in Yorkshire and then in Scotland.”
“But when the opportunity came up to join a new and exciting brick-making company close to home, it was too good to miss. Little did I know that I would spend the next 32 years here. And I have enjoyed every minute.”
In 1994 Denis became York Handmade’s first-ever Quality Manager, a crucial role which was later expanded to include Health and Safety Managemen.........
