MARCH OF THR SUPERHEROES...

28th May, 2021.

On Friday 7th May colleagues from Easingwold coop stores in the Market Place and Long Street donned their capes and charged up their super powers to raise money for mind. Led by the brilliant Gary Stewart on drums and accompanied by the wonderful Bex Rowan from Mindful Photography Uk, the superheroes marched from Long street into the Market Place. The sun was out and the Town centre was busy, after such a grand entrance it seemed only right that Member Pioneer, Annabel Gledhill, should take to a bench to give an impromptu speech about mental health in rural communities.....

Our local library is back open and being well used. What a relief as the Covid numbers keep falling and the vaccination rollout helps us stay safe. The wealth of new books on the shelves are being borrowed quickly with lots more available so do come and borrow your weekly allowance of nine books. Shelves display the new books, thrillers, crime and children’s books with displays on local walks and Mental Health week. All can be borrowed for three weeks as well as audio books for those long journeys to staycations. Children’s groups are not yet restarting but we hope to do so soon. Our hours will increase in June with times on our web site and outside on the notice board. We are grateful to Councillor F Johnston –Banks for all his work on our History and Local Study information that we house in the library. He is copying documents and putting them in files on line so that the public can access them. This will be useful for people researching local history in their own time and at home.....

Last Friday a milestone was reached at the Galtres Centre for the patients of Millfield , Stillington, and Tollerton Surgeries. An incredible 10,000th Covid 19 vaccine dose was administered by Dr Anna Mannion, to a thrilled recipient, Mr. Michael Hourston. Reaching such a target was the culmination of a phenomenal team effort and by the end of the day’s clinic a further 531 people received the vaccine. Special mention must go to Dr Lorraine Boyd who has worked tirelessly to organize and deliver the local vaccination programme along with her able lieutenants, who have included doctors, pharmacists, nurses and administrators, who are currently working or retired. They all live or work locally to Easingwold. As a result of their efforts and those of the EDCCA volunteers, under the stewardship of Di Watkins, their Chief Officer, the Galtres sited Local Vaccination Programme has evolved into an incredibly efficient and heartwarmingly community spirited success story.....

Easingwold Running Club...

14th May, 2021.

Hands up, who remembers cross country at school? Fuelled by the enticing prospect of an afternoon away from the classroom, the expectation of spending half the route precariously pulling your trainers from a patch of mud, you were almost certain you could jump over and the unquestionable certainty, that at least one pupil, would have to run in an outfit made entirely of lost property. It is safe to say that for many, school cross country certainly conjures a variety of evocative memories. Not however, Round 2 of the Club Championship, this could not have been a bigger contrast. The weather was perfect, the ground was dry, and the participants were fuelled by a sense of common completive spirit and possibly the odd strong coffee. Taking on a 7km route in Myton and supported by a team of volunteers, 49 socially distanced members completed the off-road course.....
