Return to school...

26th March, 2021.

The children and families of Easingwold Primary School were thrilled to all be able to return to school on March 8th. There were lots of smiley faces at the gates, despite the rain and the children were so happy to see their friends and teachers. Staff have been thrilled at how well the children have returned and how quickly their return to learning in school has happened....

St Monica's Spring Spruce...

26th March, 2021.

The Friends of St Monica's have been active with the gardens and grounds at the hospital looking good with spring flowers beginning to appear along with the primulas and winter pansies. The Summer House has been cleaned and new cushions are in place for the coming spring and summer. Last year it was hardly used due to Covid restrictions but we are hoping that future residents will be able to enjoy sitting in it with family or visitors when we get some warmer weather. Appreciation go to Rob and Christine Burn whose continued work is paying dividends....

New Defibrillators installed in Easingwold...

26th March, 2021.

A primary role of any Town Council is to ensure the safety of its citizens. Publically accessible Defibrillators are an effective way of improving life chances following a Cardiac Arrest. Easingwold already has three of these, located outside of The George and Springhill Court in the Centre as well as another at the Fire Training facility on Stillington Rd. After a Cardiac Arrest, it is vital that oxygen rich blood flows to the brain and vital organs as soon as possible. In fact, there is a 10% drop in the chances of survival for every minute that passes without early CPR and defibrillation! So the sooner you can access and use a defibrillator, the better! Obviously the closer you are to a defibrillator, the less time you lose before using it. However your Town Council realized that as Easingwold’s population expands outwards, more and more residents will not be able to access a defibrillator in enough time to be effective. We therefore decided to install another four defibrillators to help our residents following a Cardiac Arrest....

Easingwold Community Primary Going Quackers This Easter For Fundraising...

26th March, 2021.

EPIC is the group involved with raising much needed funds for Easingwold Community Primary School. We have a big target of c£21,000 to aim for at the moment, which will enable the school to build a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA). This is a fenced off space with a special surface and markings for different sports and goals incorporated into the area, to enable children to have fun with balls sports at break times and maximize the outside space. The aim is also to ensure children can keep active all year round in any weather, something that is certainly extremely important for their mental health and well-being. The hope is that this facility will be available to local nurseries and community groups e.g walking netball and football....

19th March, 2021.

The South Hambleton Covid Vaccination Programme reached a further milestone last Saturday, when a magnificent number of 621 vaccines were administered. Helping us were the wonderful EDCCA volunteers who, once again, ensured the smooth flow of the clinic. This week, the Easingwold, Stillington and Tollerton practices will be contacting those patients in the over 50 group. This coming Friday, there is another big full day clinic to accommodate this group. There is plenty of vaccine available and if you think you have been missed please inform your practice. Please also ensure your contact details are up to date. We will also be getting round our housebound and residential home patients with their second doses this week....

Newton on Ouse WI...

19th March, 2021.

Another month and another challenge for Newton on Ouse WI to provide their members with an alternative meeting! This month we sent out a ‘Meeting in an envelope’ to every member which included: a recipe sheet and a selection of limericks to celebrate St David’s Day and St Patrick’s Day, a quiz and puzzle sheet and a piece of aida fabric with a selection of threads to encourage our members to participate in a needlework project. We hope to use our aida to produce a stitched record of members during the pandemic. Our ladies have been asked to cross stitch their initials in green and then to decorate as they wish by adding a border, embellishments and anything else they can think of. Although a challenge for some of us, suggestions, guidelines and offers of help were also included....

LITTER...

19th March, 2021.

Great news! There is so much less litter in Easingwold. Local residents have been quietly and effectively picking up litter. I do a few sacks a week since the first lockdown and despaired that there was so much. Recently I have noticed that there is much, much less. Much appreciation to everyone doing their bit. Grass verges are green again. Plastic bottles and aluminium cans will not get shredded in mowers and cut the feet of wild animals. Baby birds will not get fed tiny bits of plastic swelling their stomachs and starving to death. String, wire and worse will not entangle feet and beaks of creatures. Glass will not cut unsuspecting creatures. Perhaps plastic wrappers will not be picked and swallowed by sheep and cattle....

Do More, Be More...

12th March, 2021.

We live in difficult times. Our ears are full of cries for help from every quarter. It’s easy to become desensitized, immune to the white noise of constant pleas. British people and particularly Yorkshire folk are by their nature, caring. Aloof maybe, gruff sometimes but we’d do anything for a worthy cause, It is commendable. It’s why ‘Caring’ is one of our five guiding principles in Scouting along with integrity, respect, belief and cooperation....

Budget boosts business and the North...

12th March, 2021.

Thirsk and Malton MP, Kevin Hollinrake, says the three-part Spring Budget will support people and businesses in his constituency through a moment of deep crisis, will begin to fix the public finances with a fair and honest plan and will support the work of building the UK economy whilst levelling up across all the regions. Mr Hollinrake, who has been pushing for a fairer share for the North since he was elected, said that the news that the Treasury is moving to Darlington, the UK Investment Bank will be based in Leeds and Teeside is to become one of the eight freeports shows that the Government really means business about levelling up and will provide knock on benefits for the whole region. The key measures include: • An extension of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme until the end of September ensuring it continues to support employers as they begin to reopen. • Two further grants for self-employed people, with the newly self-employed also eligible for both grants. • A continuation of the temporary Universal Credit uplift for a further six months. • New support for providing young people with new skills, including doubling the incentive payment to SMEs to take on apprentices of any age to £3,000, and £126 million to triple the number of traineeships next year....
