Japanese Drummers hit Easingwold with a bang!...
25th June, 2021.
Well, the Kaminari UK Taiko Drummers hit Easingwold Centre on Saturday afternoon as part of our now regular Saturday Summer of Music festival performances organized by our Town Council.
But Japanese Drumming? Who on earth would want to watch that? And for two hours?!
Well after those two hours, these drummers from York had a large crowd comprising both young and old in the Marketplace shouting for more and had put away any misconceptions of how enjoyable they would be.
Easingwold just hasn’t seen much like this before – with seven drummers leaping up and down and dancing around the Buttercross with aplomb! They played on a variety of large drums blending music and dance in in ways you would just not expect at all. This wasn’t just drumming – this was a spectacle and those who were there will tell you how good the show was!
The Kaminari Taiko Drummers are based in York, and while this was their first live performance for over a year – you would not have known it.....

Friends Fund Defibs...
25th June, 2021.
The importance of defibrillators has been put into sharp profile by the lifesaving role one played recently in the Euros football. The Friends of St Monica’s Hospital (FOSMH) have been active in helping provide them in the Easingwold area and are co-funding a new one that will soon be appearing on Persimmon’s Weald development on Stillington Road.
The shock of seeing Christian Eriksen collapse and receive treatment from a “defib” brought home how critical they can be to keep a person alive. Using one on someone in cardiac arrest can increase survival rate by 60% and their availability in Easingwold is spreading.
FOSM has so far co-funded “defibs” as they are known at the York/Stillington Road vets, Easingwold Primary School, Copperclay Walk, and in Oulston and Farlington.....

Easingwold W I report...
18th June, 2021.
Despite the difficulties we are still managing to celebrate our Centenary Year. Several garden get togethers have been brilliant for friends to catch up, and new friends to get to know us all. Our walks have restarted, enjoying a coffee and chat at the end. For our second garden singalong with Jessa, we were blessed with perfect weather, and we spent a very pleasant afternoon. Ann and Jenny have tidied and planted the flower troughs by the side of the Town Hall, the lilies in our seat on Long Street are about to burst into flower, and Sue’s trough near the Primary School is looking very pretty.....

Easingwold Running Club...
18th June, 2021.
The Club Championship continues, as does a strong membership participation, with 53 members completing the latest event, a 10km road race, held on the evening of the 25th May.
The cool weather made for fantastic running conditions and the army of volunteers, who came dressed for a monsoon, were certainly relieved that the rain managed to hold off.
The event is traditionally a key date in the Summer Race League diary, with athletes travelling from across the region to test themselves on the undulating course, a circular route from Easingwold via Crayke. This year the race was slightly different. Holding these races requires huge amounts of organization, dedicated club members and a little bit of creativity.....

U3A Easingwold and District...
11th June, 2021.
u3a day – what was that? Did you see the Mayor, Peter Nottage? Did you see the line-dancing? Did you see any other groups? (all signed in for ‘track and trace’) Well, if you didn't, you weren’t around in Easingwold on Wednesday afternoon.
This was the first National u3a day. Groups all over UK were celebrating in different ways. Many local businesses supported the day by putting up a poster but a few made a super effort and had bright blue and yellow displays in their windows. Brilliant!
There was blue and yellow bunting around the Market Cross (We have been requested to leave it up for now as it looks cheery) and, If you were passing the Galtres Centre, we put some up there as well. You might have noticed people wearing blue and yellow clothes on the day.
The event in Easingwold started at 12.00 midday with Peter Nottage, the Mayor making an opening speech. He was interrupted by our flash-mob of line-dancers and all onlookers were suitably surprised as one of our newest groups leapt into action. That was fun.....

A scarecrow festival was held in Stillington last weekend. Residents were encouraged to design and fabricate scarecrows and display in front of their houses.

There’s Gold in them Hills!...
4th June, 2021.
1,800 year-old Roman artefacts dug up in a field in the Ampleforth area fetched £185,000 at auction, at a Derbyshire auction house last month. Hansons Auctioneers in Derby auctioned off the incredible finds, to a private buyer from London.
The story starts in a field in the Ampleforth area in May 2020 when two metal detectorists Mark Didlick from Easingwold and his friend James Spark from Leeds were scanning a field with their metal detectors when that sound indicating metal rang out.
They unearthed a bronze bust of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius (AD 121 to AD 180) which is 6 inches (13cm) big and an equestrian statuette of the god Mars, a horse shaped knife handle and a plumb-bob (Roman spirit level).....

The ‘Thousand butterfly ‘project – Easingwold...
4th June, 2021.
In late 2019, Easingwold Community Library successfully applied to North Yorkshire’s Stronger Community fund for money to run a volunteer led project called ‘Inspire the Child’.
The main aim of the project was to bring primary school children from the various small rural schools around Easingwold into the library and to run several library related activities. The project was a great success but unfortunately was cut short by the outbreak of the virus.
A library volunteer after reading about and then visiting ‘The Flock’ art installation at Wentworth Woodhouse near Rotherham, came up with a similar idea. This was to involve as many people as possible from our local community, to create an art installation outside the Easingwold Community Library. The funding from the ‘Stronger Community’ fund, with the council’s blessing, was diverted to the new project.....
