EDCCA Tuesday Tea and Tarts...
28th January, 2022.
We had another wonderful response to our second “Tuesday Tea and Tarts” gathering in the Lounge area at the Galtres Centre. Helen Smith had come along to play a delightful selection of gentle piano tunes to entertain our visitors whilst they chatted to friends old and new. It was lovely to see familiar faces and to meet new friends too.
The refreshments table was laden with beautiful 2 tier cake stands groaning under the weight of tasty goodies – Lemon Drizzle cake, Cookies, Chocolate Buns, Shortbread and Victoria Sandwich to name but a few.
Cups and saucers were laid out ready for our guests to enjoy complimentary hot drinks with their cakes which had been lovingly homemade or kindly donated from the Co-Op.........

SHORT MAT BOWLS AT THE GALTRES...
14th January, 2022.
We must all count ourselves very fortunate to have in our midst the wonderful Galtres Centre (Easingwold). The Sports Hall is used for a myriad of activities including Table Tennis, Pickleball, Cricket nets, Football and Badminton.
However, readers may not realize that it is also the main venue used throughout the winter season (September-March) for a multitude of Short Mat Bowls (SMB) activities, a sport which requires a level floor, good lighting, and mat storage facilities.
Primarily, it is the home venue of the local SMB club that has played there since their formation in 1991. For a period, the club met on Saturday afternoons as well as the current Tuesday and Thursday evening sessions. Recently the club has added a Friday afternoon session and the Centre itself also runs a Wednesday afternoon session as part of their Over 55 “keep healthy” program.........

YORK HANDMADE COMES TO THE RESCUE OF “DEVASTATED” VILLAGE CHURCH...
14th January, 2022.
The generosity of a local brickmaker has helped a little village church rebuild its historic wall after it was demolished by a reckless driver.
The York Handmade Brick Company, one of the largest independent brickmakers in the country, donated the bricks free of charge to St John’s Church in Minskip, near Boroughbridge.
This gift has enabled the church wall to be completely rebuilt and, accordingly to church warden Robert Beaumont, it looks exactly as it did before the accident.
He commented: “We were absolutely devastated when we saw the extensive damage the out-of-control car had done to our wall. It was heart-breaking. As a small church, we were struggling to find the funds to restore the wall to its former glory, so this gift from York Handmade has made all the difference.........
