25th February, 2022.

After more than 75 years of “light blue” service, Wing Commander Ray Kidd has folded his wings for the last time, to take graceful retirement in York. Ray joined the Air Training Corps as a cadet in Scarborough in 1947, going on to complete his National Service in the RAF as a radio specialist. After leaving the RAF, he rejoined the ATC, and following adult service at other ATC squadrons locally, Ray became Officer Commanding at the newly-formed 2487 (Easingwold) Squadron, in 1969.........

Cozie minibus trip to Whitby...

25th February, 2022.

We had planned the weekend and the activities that were to take place. The parents had been invited to come and hear the plans for the weekend and ask any questions they had. Saturday morning and Alan our Chairman of Cozie plus one of our volunteers had brought the EDCCA minibus, which we had hired for the weekend, round to the Galtres car park, Easingwold. 14 excited young people were waiting there for us with their bags packed and picnics at the ready. Alan was to be driving with Sam as volunteer in the minibus. Martha our Youth Leader was travelling in her car and Chris one of the staff was in his car. It would be helpful to have a vehicle at the Youth Hostel other than the minibus, should the need arise that we would need to bring a youngster home. We set off on a scenic trip across the Moors to the Visitor Centre at Danby. Here we were met by Ros who welcomed us and gave us an introductory game to see if we could guess whether the facts on the laminated sheets about the National Park were true or false. This got the group discussing the area and interacting together. Next up we divided into 2 teams and ventured outside to try 2 team building exercises. The first how to build a wooden bridge without instructions, the other building a wooden stile with printed instructions. Each task involved communication, lateral thinking and team effort. To let off steam afterwards the playground was very popular and built up an appetite before the lunch break and chance to warm up.........

30 New Homes Built in the Easingwold Area & Looking for New Owners...

25th February, 2022.

… of the feathered variety! For the past 4 week, the girls at 1st Sutton on the Forest Brownie Unit have been hard at work building & decorating bird boxes from scratch. The girls began their “help the birds” journey by making their own bird feeders using recycled toilet roll tubes, peanut butter & bird seed. A very messy activity, but thoroughly enjoyed by all. The next week saw the start of the bird box building. Working excellently in teams as one girl held the wood whilst the other began hammering the nails, the bird boxes soon began to take shape. This wasn’t an easy task, but the girls all tried their best, persevered with the hammering & got there in the end.........

Easingwold Running Club...

25th February, 2022.

Awards season is in full swing, and with a 2 year in person hiatus, the circus has swept into town, albeit with a few running adaptions. Red carpet? No, a club social run around town and the surrounding area. Fashionably designed and interchangeable made dresses. Again, no, post running apparel with a quick change of attire. So, what do these awards share with others across the world? The opportunity to look back on success. A chance to recognize both club and personal achievements across 2021, celebrate stand out performances, improvements, and exceptional devotion to the club. The first prize of the evening was the ‘Manoocheher Amir Cup’, named after a club member, who sadly passed away in recent years. The event was an inter club cross country race, with 49 club members tackling an off-road route in Myton.........

EASINGWOLD AND DISTRICT FLOWER CLUB...

18th February, 2022.

The Flower Club's first meeting in 2022 took the form of an "In House" demonstration by three committee members working simultaneously. Audrey Thomas, Jean Thornton and Anne Hopwood were provided with identical boxes of flowers and a wide selection of foliage of which they had no previous sight until they stood at their table. The tables had cardboard niches placed between them so each person could only see their own creation. Ken Hopwood was also invited along to ask us questions or to talk generally of his experience of Flower Festivals and National Shows.........

Newton on Ouse WI...

11th February, 2022.

Newton on Ouse WI resumed their monthly meetings after the Christmas break with a good turnout of members and one visitor. Official business was short with a quick resume of a fabulous meal we had in January at the Blacksmith’s Arms, Newton on Ouse and a report from Carol Watson of a willow weaving session she attended. Carol brought a beautiful tree and 3D star that she had made to show us all. We were also invited to make our votes on the Resolutions for this year. Our planned speaker this month had sadly been unable to attend but we were very pleased to welcome Anne and Martin Curzon who gave us a delightful talk on the history of teddy bears, helped by a few friendly furry characters that they had brought with them. Although the collection of bears belongs to Anne, it is Martin that does the talking.........

Andy Wilkinson - Obituary...

11th February, 2022.

We were saddened to hear about the death of Andy Wilkinson (Wilko) on 18th December 2021 from a very short battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Andy came to Tanpit Lane Easingwold in 1981 with his parents Brian and Jean and sister Katie. He went to Easingwold comprehensive school where he was always the entertainer but measured this out with great grades and he followed his father’s footsteps to work at the Midland bank. He had a time working on the Stock Exchange in London and loved the fast life both with work and socially. Andy left the banking world to work in the portable building industry and eventually ended up setting up Britcab with his good friend Dale. He was a hard working manager, he had a vision for future business needs, including the potential power of the internet and how it would affect business! He was a mentor for many and helped people to develop their own careers.........

Business Briefcase...

4th February, 2022.

Charles Hobson was born and brought up near Stamford Bridge, where his father ran a plant hire and construction business. Drawn to the construction side of the business, Charles trained as a surveyor, however he soon realized that his heart wasn’t really in the job, and kept remembering the times that he had accompanied his father, to see a good friend who ran a gentlemen’s outfitters in Scarborough. Charles would spend the whole day if he could, seated in the corner of the shop watching every customer, every sale and the way the assistants helped the customers. Years later Charles was sent out to survey a property in Easingwold that had been a small toy shop, with a large storage area behind, this he thought, would be my dream; he gave up surveying bought the toy shop and Charles Hobson Gentleman’s Outfitters was born, that was 43 years ago.........

A Glimpse in the past...

4th February, 2022.

Last weeks Advertiser mentioned the death of Mr Alfred Marshall (1972). Philip Elizabeth Anne Charles Edward.........
