26th February, 2021.
We at Cozie love being in Easingwold, we think that the pandemic has helped us all to realize how lucky we are to live here. That’s not to say life hasn’t been difficult for us all.
We teamed up with Beth from Hearts to produce a special art competition for our youngsters. We’ve been out and about doing detached youth work and as well as checking up on our youngsters we also gave them a Valentine’s competition pack. The brief was to produce a decorated heart which may also contain a message of love, romantic or otherwise....

Zoom the MP...
26th February, 2021.
Kevin Hollinrake MP met with 80 or so of his constituents last week from the comfort of his home, via Zoom, in an open constituency meeting that anyone could attend. There were no “cats” or upside-down faces and no technology short-comings. The topic of the evening was the pandemic.
Kevin opened by speaking of the 119,000 deaths from Covid-19 and the extreme loss of liberties that have caused such hardship to people and businesses. Setting what would become the tenor of the meeting he admitted “There is no doubt we made mistakes”, but he pointed to similar struggles in other countries and to the great successes, including the roll-out of the vaccination programme and the wonderful work of health and care workers during the last 12 months.
On the impact of the repeated lockdowns on schools and children Kevin said: “We took our foot off the gas, we should have been ahead of the game in preparing for a second lockdown in terms of technology and made sure they were available for all children. It’s one of the areas where we could have done better....

Easingwold & District U3A...
26th February, 2021.
Are you curious?
Just in case some of you don’t know what the u3a is, I’ll explain. It’s a worldwide organization for people no longer in full-time work, who are still curious and want to learn or want to share knowledge with others. It’s about exploring new ideas, skills and activities together, learning for fun and making friends. Everybody has something to offer. In UK there are over a thousand u3a groups. Under lockdown we remain active with as many groups as possible meeting on zoom.
We recently had our monthly meeting on zoom and encouragingly the number of participant members and visitors is increasing. This month our own member Martin Whillock FRAS talked to us about ‘Astronomy – what’s out there? A tour of the solar system....

19th February, 2021.
10 days ago, 7-year-old Percy Ollive set out on a personal challenge like no other. In memory of Captain Sir Tom, who lapped his garden 100 times during lockdown 1, raising money for charity, Percy decided he’d like to aim high and see if he could cycle 100 miles on his bike in 10 days.
Percy, who attends Crayke C of E Primary School in North Yorkshire, set out to raise £100 for his school’s parent and teacher association, who support the school. Like most primary aged children at present, Percy is home-schooling and wanted to do something special for his school community, who are working so hard to keep pupils motivated and connected....

Easingwold WI Centenary...
19th February, 2021.
In January 1921 a meeting was held in the Town Hall. Presided over by Mrs Love of Hawkhills, and addressed by Miss Dent of Wetherby, the meeting was to gauge interest in forming a W I. A committee was formed, Mrs Love to be president, and all other offices filled. 150 members enrolled. Afterwards a social was held, gentlemen included, and dancing, musical items and refreshments were enjoyed. Mr Walter Bannister proposed a “hearty vote of thanks” for providing such an enjoyable evening.
The first official meeting was held in the Parish Rooms in early February 1921. There was a large attendance and the talk was “Handicrafts.” For 99 years, apart from a period during WW2, when soldiers were billeted in the Parish Rooms and meetings were moved to the Wesleyan Chapel on Spring Street, meetings have been held in the Parish Rooms. Sadly we are not able to complete our Centenary here, but look forward to meeting in our new “home” at Easingwold Cricket Club, as soon as circumstances permit....

Sixth form students from a local secondary academy have taken part in a virtual relay to help raise over £500 for two national charities.
Year 12 students from Outwood Academy Easingwold, took part in a virtual relay to raise money for charities chosen by the students: Young Minds and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Each student in the year group was given a 60 minute time slot in which to run or walk as far as possible and then log their distance.
The aim was to cover 200 miles in the 40 hours of the working week and the year group sneaked over the line on the last leg, covering over 201 miles in total despite the freezing and wet conditions.
To achieve their aim, the students worked together as a team showing a strong team spirit with every student contributing who was able to. Some students even stepped up to cover those who were injured, ill, self-isolating or shielding, with Sadie Bird, Louis Boyce, David Millan and Georgia and Milly Ainley all running twice for the special cause....

1st Easingwold Scout Group...
6th February, 2021.
Despite a world-wide pandemic, it’s a real delight to share some successes in Scouting. Back in 2017 the 1st Easingwold Scout Group embarked on the redevelopment of their outdoor centre – a Scouting venue set in 8 acres of pasture and woodland used and loved by the Scout Group, but also by the wider community. After assembling a small team with the necessary skills to deliver such a huge project, some 3 years later and after raising an astonishing £218,800 through fundraising, generous benefactors and grant aid, the Easingwold Outdoor Centre, known locally as “The Dawney”, is soon to be completed. Despite the arrival of Covid-19, the Team and Scout Group pushed on through some exceedingly difficult and challenging times delivering an amazing new facility for Scouts and the wider community to enjoy for many years to come. This has been a truly magnificent achievement for the Scout Group. Mondegreen EB is “delighted to have awarded funds through the Landfill Community Fund to this exciting project which will provide excellent facilities for both Scouts and the local community....
