Linton-on-Ouse Primary School & Nursery...

23rd December, 2020.

At the end of a quite remarkable 2020, the Year 5 and Year 6 pupils at Linton-on-Ouse Primary School & Nursery should have been at the Peat Rigg Outdoor Centre near Pickering thoroughly enjoying their adventurous week-long residential trip. Sadly due to the COVID protocols this was cancelled many months ago. But given the tremendous opportunities for the children during these weeks away and the manner in which they grow and flourish, it was essential that a safe alternative was found. And thanks to the imagination, energy and drive from the school staff and instructors at Peat Rigg, plus the authorisation from NYCC H&S and the Educational Visits Office, plus the enthusiastic commitment from parents, the children were able to have a wonderful three day Residential Staycation of adventurous activities within the school grounds, during the school day....

Friends of Alne Hall fundraising update...

23rd December, 2020.

As the year draws to a close we take time to reflect upon the previous months. Normally by now we would be looking forward to a good rest having had a busy year attending local village fairs being kept busy wrapping our tombola prizes for these, making preserves, knitting and baking delicious cakes. Sadly this year we have all missed being at the events, chatting to friends old and new and letting people know about Alne Hall. Despite this we have not been idle. We have received donations from our supporters and the Daphne/Sam Emporium at Stillington Oaks has done a roaring trade. Keeping the residents topped up with food items, tasty treats to get us through these strange months, toiletries, cards and gift items. We really appreciate all the support we have recieved this year. Sam our Chairman recently took a cheque for £1,500 to Helen Oldfield the Service Manager at Alne Hall. This will be used to purchase gifts for the residents for Christmas and some treats for hopefully the spring when the health situation may begin to improve....

Earlier this year, Upper Sixth pupil Rory Watt from St Peter’s School, York, launched a soup run to support the over 60s in his local community who had been advised to self-isolate due to the coronavirus pandemic. Rory launched the soup run in March in the village of Husthwaite in North Yorkshire, delivering nutritious soup to his elderly neighbours twice a week. Rory even fashioned a delivery vehicle out of his Dad's golf trolley to deliver the soup safely. The service also offered a point of contact for residents who live alone with no family to check on them. Rory's selfless actions were praised by his local Parish Council and he was chosen as a 'Local Hero' on BBC Look North for supporting others during the pandemic....

NEW LIFE FOR RAF LINTON-ON-OUSE MEMORIALS...

11th December, 2020.

RAF Linton-on-Ouse, built in 1937, has performed many important roles during its 83-year history. Apart from flying bombing raids over enemy territory during World War Two, during which over 1300 aircrew failed to return, it served as a fighter station during the early part of the Cold War before the arrival of No1 Flying Training School in 1957. This unit was responsible for training Royal Air Force and Royal Navy fast jet aircrew until the role finally transferred to RAF Valley in October 2019 With the RAF scheduled to leave the site next year, much work has been done to ensure the history and heritage of Linton-on-Ouse is protected and preserved. All historical memorabilia has been photographed and recorded for posterity and, where possible, new homes for heritage items have been sought. Many items have gone to other RAF stations and others will go to aviation museums for permanent preservation and display....

Cozie AGM 25/11/20...

4th December, 2020.

Chairperson’s report Here is a report of what has been happening since the last AGM. A year which, although dominated and disrupted by Covid, has involved a lot of activity for Cozie. December 2019. The sexual health clinics continue with on average 6 youngsters attending. We had an evening induction training session for all staff led by panda. Just before Christmas we had our first trip with the youngsters , bowling to Clifton Moor. It was a great night out and hopefully the first of many. We subsidised it so that youngsters could afford it. We took delivery of a free full sized table tennis table. Normal Thursday night club sessions continued. January 2020 Normal club sessions resumed after Christmas and the older youngsters were helping to organise our next trip, this time go-karting. Sexual health clinics continued. February 2020 We have been donated a more portable football table which will prove to be very useful during the summer sessions. Normal sessions at Cozie seem to be going well but by the end of the month the same youngsters are being very difficult at the create (artistic) sessions. All 3 clubs Cozie, Jam(church Youth club ) and create staff are sharing ideas as to how to deal with the difficult youngsters....
