Congratulations to Lynn Burkill a Domestic at the NHS Easingwold Renal Unit, who was recently presented with her Star Award by Simon Morritt, Chief Executive.

1st Kyle Valley Scouts Great Tower Activity Camp – Windermere...
27th August, 2021.
What a week. We kayaked, canoed, paddle-boarded, stacked crates, climbed trees, orienteered, built bridges, thrown tomahawks, fired arrows, lit fires, gutted and cooked fresh trout, played golf and climbed The Old Man of Coniston. We visited an aquarium, leapt from a platform 30 feet off the ground, ate a hundredweight of Haribos, drunk 40 litres of hot chocolate (really!), we carried gallons of water, cut and chopped firewood, slept in all manner of ways from tents to hammocks to bivvy bags. We waded through neck-high bracken, cooked and ate nearly 700 individual meals, did 30 lateral flow tests and used many, many sticking plasters. We've also had some evenings around the camp fire and played lot's of games.......

VX is BACK!...
27th August, 2021.
The Galtres Centre saw a major VX tournament at the weekend as ten teams converged on Easingwold to celebrate being able to play and compete in VX again.
Our local VX Club, Easi-RockIts, had a number of players entering, including the youngest player in the competition, George Scott aged 11, and Head Coach Paul Hildreth 62.
This tournament was billed as a ‘Back to VX’ tournament and was designed to be an open, informal, fun tournament that anyone could win. Points were not awarded for wins and draws but a team’s number of strikes throughout the course of the competition. With some players being seeded teams were made up of anywhere between 2 and 5 players. On top of this the age range was wide open – the age gap between youngest and oldest was 51 years. With ‘challenge badges’ available to compete for and every team playing every other team, the scene was set for anyone to win.......

Easingwold WI OUTING...
27th August, 2021.
19 members were able to enjoy a visit to Newby Hall last week. We loaded up the EDCCA minibus and Pat’s car for a really lovely day out.
We did it all, a trip down the river, miniature railway and guided tour of the house, and of course the beautiful gardens and sculpture park. There was a dolls house display as well.
Lunch was a delicious array of sandwiches and a warm cream and jam scone, we came out quite full, no room for ice creams.
We all came home happy, having wandered around the gift and plant shops. The weather was perfect. It’s good to get together again.......

Outwood Academy Easingwold Celebrates Successful GCSE Results Day...
19th August, 2021.
After a phenomenal set of A Level results on Tuesday, students and staff from Outwood Academy Easingwold are celebrating again this week as Year 11 students receive their GCSE results.
After an extraordinary year t here were scenes of jubilation at the Easingwold-based academy as students collected their well deserved grades.
We are delighted with the tremendous work ethic shown by our students at school and during the periods of online learning. This certainly paid off as 88% of students achieved a standard pass in English and mathematics and 70% achieved a strong pass in both subjects. Overall there were highlights for the academy in French (84% 5+), English language (82% 5+), English literature (78% 5+), mathematics ( 74% 5+) and history (73% 5+). We are also delighted with further maths in which 39% (7 students) achieved a grade 9, in history 15% (16 students), English language 14% (17 students) and French 13% (9 students) achieved grade 9’s.......

Pond dipping at Millfields Wetland...
19th August, 2021.
The Easingwold Green Spaces Group had a real treat of a pond dipping event in the sunshine on Wednesday 11th August. It was our second pond dip of the summer so far with more to come!
Families were challenged to identify the many weird and wonderful creatures in the pre-filled trays using the ID sheets provided, assisted by friendly neighbourhood nature geeks.
If the whoops, squeals, frantic pointing and quick-fire questions were to go by, it was an exciting return to ‘new-normal’ and engaging with nature events again. All the while surrounded by dragonflies, butterflies, bumblebees and swallows. We also got a spectacular aerial show of a peregrine falcon bombing a dancing and dazzling cloud of starlings.......

Cozie daytrip to Saltburn...
19th August, 2021.
For weeks leading up to the daytrip the young people had been excited. The weather dawned bright and sunny as we gathered outside Cozie to await the EDCCA minibus kindly being driven for us that day by Jane Johnson. Jane arrived as she always does with a smile and cheery words. The young people excitedly got into the well kept spacious silver minibus ready for the adventure. Martha travelled in the family car with her daughters and Chris took his car full of our equipment including our brand new pop up gazebo, a selection of sporting equipment, drinks, suncream and sanitizer.......

Huby & District Triples Bowls League 2021...
19th August, 2021.
Game 11 Tuesday 10th August
Easingwold holding second, entertained leaders Malton knowing a good win could propel them to top spot, but a defeat would make it difficult to overhaul them. After 6 ends Easingwold were up in two; 6-2 and 5-1 on Rinks 2 and 4 respectively, Rink 3 was tied 5-5 (after leading 5-0), but Malton were 10-2 up on 1. With 12 ends gone Easingwold led on every Rink. Remarkably they were now 13-12 up on 1, 15-3 on 2, 12-10 on 3 and 13-4 on 4. So, two thirds through and possibly a 10-0 win and top spot for Easingwold. By the finish Malton rallied on Rink 3 to win 20-15, but the others stayed with the home side who won 22-16, 18-7 and 25-6 on Rinks 1, 2 and 4. Final scores Easingwold 80 Shots 8 Points, Malton 49 Shots 2 Points.......

Junior Cricket Coaching at ECC...
14th August, 2021.
Last week Easingwold Cricket Club (ECC) wrapped up a wonderful summer term of cricket coaching with an end of season BBQ, and it was a night well worth celebrating.
A huge amount of preparation began last winter when the nation was in lockdown, a time when the viability of a cricket season was still looking extremely unlikely. Despite the uncertain outlook, committee members, parents, local businesses, local organizations, schools and volunteers worked together to plan and launch the most successful junior cricket coaching season ECC has ever had.

ADAPTABLE ….!...
14th August, 2021.
…. and Easingwold Parish Church certainly has been, in coping with the various, and varying, restrictions caused by the Pandemic, even using outdoor locations! For the second time, the special Sunday afternoon monthly Family Service was held on Millfield. We had been concerned about the possibility of a downpour, though in the event it stayed dry – the main problem was the strong and gusty wind (though no worse than on the Sea of Galilee, claimed several people who had been there!)

‘Proms in the Playground’...
14th August, 2021.
In July a small group of players from Easingwold Town Band took part in ‘Proms in the Playground’, an event promoted by Brass Bands England for primary schools throughout the country.
Real live music in school once again, after so long! At Alne, Brafferton, Easingwold, Huby, Husthwaite and Stillington primary schools, we were welcomed enthusiastically on three successive Fridays by our young audiences and their teachers, for a 20-minute performance of short pieces, mostly familiar to the children, in a range of styles that included lively film songs, jazz swing and a solemn hymn tune.

3rd Easingwold Brownies has closed...
14th August, 2021.
3rd Easingwold Brownies ended their final term before closure, at the Guiding Allotments with food from the Fika Rooms, planting plants and various attempts of lighting a bonfire.Unfortunately, due to the dampness of the wood, it did not succeed, so instead the girls were sent home with a lot of marshmallows to make s’mores at home. At the end of the night, the girls who were able to attend, received the badges they had achieved this past year, including their bronze awards, which the girls worked really hard to achieve.

Mural Tribute...
6th August, 2021.
Our main Britcab base, at Tholthorpe, was at one time a very busy WW2 Airfield. We have recently commissioned this mural at our Tholthorpe yard to pay tribute not only to those brave airmen, who flew from here - but also to our own campaigning centenarian, Captain Tom.
The brave airmen of the Canadian air force flew hundreds of bombing missions from here in the latter stages of the war. Sadly, 119 Halifax Bombers were lost in that period.

Surprise EDCCA party...
6th August, 2021.
We finally managed our EDCCA surprise retirement party for Helen Lambert, and leaving party for Anne Banks, Jackie Bullough and Kate Quill who were sadly made redundant in November last year due to the pandemic.
Helen worked at EDCCA for 21 years and we all wish her well in her plans for retirement.
Pictured are faces I'm sure most of you remember from days gone by of staff who all worked for EDCCA, with Helen Beck who is still running the Meals on Wheels Scheme.
