SHERIFF HUTTON ART GROUP...

On the Sunday and Monday of the Easter weekend The Sheriff Hutton Art Group held their 49th Annual Art Exhibition in the Sheriff Hutton Village Hall. Both days were beautiful, and the number of visitors was very high.
The standard of Art Work displayed was exceptionally high this year and many compliments were received from the visitors.
28 artists had submitted their work for display which resulted in 127 Paintings being on show and a considerable number of sales.
In addition, there were 2 Browse boxes of unframed pictures for visitors to peruse and buy...........

Fire at Mowbray House, Long Street, Easingwold...

The Fire Brigade were called to a fire at 6.21pm Thursday 21st April on Long Street, Easingwold.
Six crews, along with an aerial ladder platform attended a fire to a residential property.
Crews started tackling the fire on the second floor of the building. The fire then spread through parts of the third and fourth floor, including the roof void...........

Rainbows and Brownie visit Birds of Prey Centre...

The Rainbows and Brownies from Huby had an enjoyable start to their Easter Holidays with a visit to the York Bird of Prey Centre in Huby.
All the girls had the opportunity to meet a variety of owls, having some of the birds fly to their outstretched arms. The keepers told them interesting facts about their feathered friends...........

Easingwold WI April Report...

The Group Meeting in the Galtres Centre with show woman Valerie Moody MBE as the speaker had been very well supported and was a very interesting talk.
Gill M, Susan F and Jean H were thanked for organizing the refreshments. Our April meeting in the Cricket Club was very busy, with lots going on. We welcomed several new ladies.
Five of us had been to the Spring Council Meeting in Scarborough and Helen had written a very comprehensive report, which has been emailed to members.
Lots of members have signed up for our dinner at the Bluebell in Alne next month and transport was arranged.
There was also a lot of interest in the Federation event, a walking treasure hunt in York in July. Good news...........

THE SERVICES AT THE CROSS...

A large crowd gathered on Good Friday at the gaunt, bare cross on the Market Green for a service arranged by Churches Together in Easingwold and District (CTED), resuming this traditional event after a break due to the Covid pandemic.
We were welcomed and the service was led by Rev. Elizabeth Cushion from the Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. Lottie Cranfield, Associate Minister at the Parish Church.
After the opening hymn: “There is a Green Hill Far Away”, Elizabeth led an opening prayer, and the story of the Crucifixion in Luke’s Gospel was read by Brian Taylor from the Methodist Church. We then sang: “O Sacred Head, now Wounded...........

AN EGGCITING TIME WAS HAD...

Easingwold Methodist Church welcomed 24 children on Thursday for the first Easter Workshop since lockdown 2019. The morning was a fun filled and a very creative session.
The children watched a video of the Easter Story and then created a huge collage of the events of Palm Sunday which is on display in church.
Then we all shared a meal together to represent The Last Supper.
We then went on to bake hot cross buns, representing Good Friday, filling the room with an appetising smell...........

Stillington Primetime...

Not sure where the name came from, but Primetime is a mixed bag of folk who come together on a Friday afternoon to enjoy playing boccia and kurling at Stillington Village Hall.
The afternoon is open and inclusive thanks to leader Joe McKechnie from Hambleton District Council, who offers seated games sessions adapted for both able and more challenged participants.
Those attending describe it as, "an entertaining afternoon...........

Asylum Reception Centre to be based at RAF Linton on Ouse...

Like most of you I was unaware of the proposed Asylum Reception Centre at Linton until I read a national daily newspaper last Thursday 14th April, which mentioned an Asylum processing centre in North Yorkshire.
The headline was all about sending Asylum seekers to Rwanda and briefly mentioned using the now closed RAF base at Linton to house Asylum seekers and process their applications.
The facility will not be secure and residents of the facility will be able to come and go as they please...........

Newton on Ouse WI - Farewell...

It was a bittersweet meeting for the ladies of the Newton on Ouse WI this month as a formal vote was taken to suspend for the foreseeable future.
With no new members willing to take on committee roles, there was no alternative but to ask Janice Whiteford from the North Yorkshire East Federation to formally take the vote and declare the suspension after almost 64 years.
Despite the sadness of the occasion, we ended on a high with a good number of members attending and a selection of previous members returning one final time...........

NORTH YORKSHIRE CLASSIC RALLY...

Sunday afternoon the 3rd April once again saw Easingwold Market Place host the finish of the North Yorkshire Classic Rally, the second round of the Motorsport News Historic Championship.
Organized by a dedicated but small team of York Motor Club members, we were supported by members of the local classic car group in Easingwold who brought their own vehicles out to put on a very varied and interesting display.
The organizers were very pleased with the wonderful turnout of spectators on a chilly afternoon...........

Easingwold Scouts – Sponsored Hike...

On Saturday 9th April a group of Scouts took part in a sponsored hike starting and finishing in Easingwold. The 8 Scouts successfully completed the 15-mile route which took them through the surrounding villages and countryside to the north of Easingwold.
In the weeks running up to this, the Scouts had been gathering sponsorship with all funds going towards their summer camp and those going to the International Scout Camp in Switzerland later in the year...........

Queens Platinum Jubilee - Hedge Planting in North Back Lane, Stillington...

To mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the Stillington Gardening Club, the Parochial Church Council and the Stillington School, got together and planted a hedge.
It is along the line of the post and rails between the cemeteries off North Back Lane..........

Easingwold Town AFC U16’s Sign off junior football with a deserved draw...

On Sunday afternoon, a milestone was reached for the U16s as they played their final junior football league fixture. After 10 years of weekend fixtures, with many of the current squad starting to play at the U7 age group, our final game was at home against Dunnington.
Easingwold Town made a very strong start, taking the lead and dominating the first 20 minutes.
It was therefore to everyone’s surprise when Dunnington finished the half 2-1 up. The first half display summed up the season to some extent with periods of good football and possession from Easingwold without taking full advantage..........

Olympian Alistair Brownlee meets Outwood Academy Alne pupils...

The pupils took part in the challenge of creating their own ‘newspaper’ in a day, which led to them becoming reporters, editors and journalists to produce a school newspaper.
As part of the challenge the children spoke with Alistair Brownlee MBE, the winner of gold medals in the Triathlon at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games.
Michelle Dawson, Principal at OPA Alne, said: “We are very grateful to Alistair for his video call because you could see how inspired the children were hearing his story and how fascinated they were when discussing his success and the work of the Brownlee Foundation..........

Cleaning Up Oulston Bank...

On Saturday 2nd April the Oulston Parish meeting organized a work party to clear debris on the Oulston Bank.
There was an excellent turn out which was really appreciated, for it was a particularly demanding task this year following the excessive debris deposited in the gullies following the winter gales..........

A packed theatre was entertained by Amanda Owen telling us tales of her life growing up and how she moved into farming despite her teachers telling her she was not good enough.
Most, were amazed by how tall she is, the television does not give any impression of height.........

Springing into action in Alne to clean up North Yorkshire's litter...

As part of Keep Britain Tidy's campaign, Great British Spring Clean, I took part in a litter pick in Alne over the weekend. The 2022 Great British Spring Clean takes place 25 March – 10 April so there's still plenty of time to get involved.
Along with every other MP, I receive a large amount of correspondence on litter scourging the beautiful countryside here in Thirsk and Malton.........

Easingwold Beavers – First Sleep over...

The Easingwold Beavers (part of Easingwold Scout group) had their first sleep over event since the start of the Covid Pandemic in the new Dawney Outdoor Center just outside Easingwold.
20 Beavers aged between 6 and 8 years old enjoyed a movie night with hot chocolate and popcorn before getting their sleeping bags out in the main hall at The Dawney. This was the first time many of them had even been away from home overnight and without parents.........

Isuzu UK celebrates new ‘Hero of Isuzu’ Award winners...

Last week Isuzu UK were proud to present four deserving recipients with a new ‘Hero of Isuzu’ award during the brand's dealer conference and awards evening in London 16 March.
Following a couple of exceptionally difficult years for all of us, the team at Isuzu UK wanted to use this year's annual dealer conference and awards to recognize those individuals who had gone above and beyond in the past year.
Tony Huggins, Managing Director of York Van Centre (Shipton by Beningbrough) collected his ‘Hero of Isuzu Award’ in recognition of his outstanding and selfless acts during the Covid pandemic, with Tony providing transportation for those in need to receive their Covid vaccinations, through a charity called York Wheels.........

Allerton Juniors Athletics Club...

ALLERTON athletes celebrated the official end of the winter season in style with a total of 14 athletes representing North Yorkshire over the weekend.
FIRSTLY, 26th March 2022 was the turn of the Year 5 and 6 Primary and Year 7 Secondary pupils to run in the National Primary Schools Cross Country Championships in Leicester.
Running for North Yorkshire in the Year 5 Boys race was Jake Holmes who came a superb 6th, and in the Year 5 Girls race Connie Wilford came a brilliant 19th, Georgia Raw 48th and Isabelle Smith 54th. In the Year 6 race, James Throup (Huby) came 34th and Wilf Lamb 77th.........
