On Saturday last, a number of friends and family of Darren Welsh (January 18, 1974 - July 26, 2024) came together for a charity day to honour and raise money for this remarkable man.
Darren passed away peacefully at home after bravely fighting a short illness at 50 years old. Darren was adored by his wife, Mia, he was a much-loved son, of Linda and the late Denis Welsh, brother, dad, nephew, uncle, cousin, and good friend to many.
£1,200 was raised at Darren’s funeral on the 21st August, which was split between the Royal British Legion and Ward 95 at Leeds who cared so dearly for Daz and supported Mia through his fight.
On 21st September on what should have been Darren and Mia’s original wedding day, instead of putting on her wedding dress to marry her prince, she was donning a pair of trainers to take on the inflatable 5k at York Knavesmire in memory of Daz and to raise funds for nearest stockistWhiteknights Yorkshire Blood Bikes—a charity close to Mia’s heart.
Darren’s weekly blood transfusions gave Mia and Daz extra time together which allowed them to get married on the 8th May 2024 and make extra special memories to cherish forever.
Saturday was an emotional day for Mia, so a group of crazy people from all walks of life agreed to take part in the inflatable 5k alongside Mia to help raise money in memory of Daz.
The whole day was eventful from start to finish, participants wore t-shirts printed with the nicknames on them that Daz gave to his friends and family who were taking part.
