Local girl, Kathryn Featherstone is a member of North & East Yorkshire Group of Endurance and York and Ainsty South Pony Club. She has been training hard these last few months to ensure that she and her horse were fit and ready to take on the 2023 Pony Club Endurance Championship Competition.
They travelled down to Lincoln to join the National Endurance Group Well Vale Ride, which runs over 3 days. It would be their turn to ride on the Sunday. They’d have to cover 53km (just over 32 miles) together.
Kathryn and her horse Steamstown Sarah, ‘Enya’, travelled down the night before to ensure they were both well rested before the ride. They had an early start on the Sunday morning, as each competing horse must be checked over by the vet, taking their heart rate, general check over and trot up before they are allowed to start.
Off they went, with some very good going, there had been a lot of rain on the Friday night and had softened the ground which made it perfect riding conditions.
They completed the first 32kms of the course, which brought the pair back to the venue for vet check and 30 minutes rest before they were allowed back on the course again..
