We had a full room for our October meeting. Some of our members were featured on the front page of the Federation newsletter on our Cotswolds holiday.

Next year’s holiday will be to Norfolk. Plans were finalized for our dinner in Kilburn this week.

We were reminded of the Group event with singer Nicola Mills at the Galtres Centre in November, open to everyone.

Our next walk, in November, will take us across Millfields and Haverwits to take us to the golf club where we shall have lunch.

The Garden Club will meet in the cricket club on the first Monday afternoon in December for a talk by the head gardener from Beningbrough.

Lists were available for a theatre visit to see “Legally Blonde” in February, and dinner at the George Hotel in January.

Some of us will be helping out on the British Legion Poppy stall next week.

We will be having a stall at the Christmas Fayre in the Galtres in December.

Some of us went on the Federations guided history “Fire Walk” recently. It was extremely interesting, exploring some of the back streets in York.

We extended our day with lunch, a visit to the Roman Baths and a ride on the York Wheel, enjoying a lovely day out.

We had a fantastic night at our Ceilidh last week. Everyone danced their socks off and enjoyed a pie, pea and traybake supper, everyone saying how much they enjoyed it.

What an amazing and inspirational speaker we had at our meeting, I could write a whole page on his talk.

When Chris Powell, AKA Captain Rummage, from Betty’s and Taylor’s Community Project “The Cone Exchange” turned up in his woolly hat with several boxes I wondered what we were in for.

He told us the Betty and Taylor family are very community minded and give a lot back, helping charities, planting trees and supporting projects.

Chris’s journey started 20 years ago, at the factory and bakery in Starbeck, Harrogate.
