A small group of ladies in Easingwold recently donated 1,000 Big Knit Innocent Smoothie hats and have created almost another 500 ready for donation.
The hats are placed on Innocent Smoothie bottles in Sainsbury’s stores and Sainsbury’s donate 30p for every bottle sold with a hat.
Morag Inglis, a member of the Easingwold Craft and Natter Group, said “11 years ago I saw a post on Facebook advertising the Big Knit.
I thought it was a fabulous idea and a great way to raise money for charity.
I reposted on Facebook which brought a response from my mum asking me to knit her a “beanie”.
At the time, I laughed and said I could possibly try as long as it was in plain stitch.
Who would have thought that all these years later, I was able to knit and donate the hats. I joined the Craft and Natter Group with no knitting experience.
I met Helen Beck at the Easingwold Craft and Natter group, and Helen runs the Knit and Natter group at Springhill Court.
Helen very patiently taught me to knit the little hats and the small size of the hats appealed to me as achievable.
