This year 1st Kyle Valley Scout Group decided to commemorate Remembrance Day in Tollerton which hasn’t previously had an event of it’s own.
After contacting the village hall committee and receiving an enthusiastic “Yes Please” the Scouts got to work planning and organizing.
On the day almost fifty young people paraded from the village sports ground to the green where a short service was conducted.
This was delivered almost entirely by the young people themselves and I think that is super important.
Remembrance is about ensuring that the lessons of the past and the honour of our fallen servicemen and women are never forgotten and that means passing this on to the next generation.
There is no better way to do this than by getting them actively involved.
Many of the Scouts have been on trips with us to Flanders. They have seen Ypres, Sanctuary Wood, Hill 62, Bedford house and Tyne Cot cemeteries and have taken part in the 8pm wreath laying ceremony at the Menin Gate.
They absolutely understand and appreciate why this day is important and so I had no difficulty at all in finding volunteers to help lead the service...
