Scouts Remember in Tollerton ...

Saturday 18th November, 2023

This year the 1st Kyle Valley Scout Group decided to commemorate Remembrance Day in Tollerton which hasn’t previously had an event of its own. After contacting the village hall committee and receiving an enthusiastic “yes please,” the Scouts got to work planning and organising the event.

On the day, almost 50 young people paraded from the village sports ground to the green where a short service was conducted.

This was delivered almost entirely by the young people themselves, which I think is super important. Remembrance is about ensuring that the lessons of the past and the honour of fallen servicemen and women are never forgotten, and that means passing this on to the next generation. There is no better way to do this than by getting them actively involved.

Many of the Scouts have been on trips with us to Flanders. They have also seen Ypres, Sanctuary Wood, Bedford House, and Tyne Cot cemeteries, and have taken part in the 8pm wreath laying ceremony at the Menin Gate.

They absolutely understand and appreciate why this day is important, so I had no difficulty at all in finding volunteers to help lead the service.

To learn more about the event, go along to your nearest stockist for a copy of the paper.
