Easingwold WI March ...

Saturday 30th March, 2024

The Easingwold WI’s March meeting began with the advertisements from the monthly newsletter, including lunches, rambles, a treasure hunt, quiz and another gilding taster session.

The spring bulb catalogues were available for perusal. Several members paid their annual subscriptions due in April.

A date was given for the next garden club meeting in June. The cricket team's spring season rota list was started for members to sign up.

The evening’s speaker, Rob Oldfield, explained the art of gilding. He described his time holding various jobs on farms and in the Merchant Navy, where he was then told about an available place at art school.

Oldfield couldn’t wait to enrol in a foundation year at York’s program next door to the nearest stockistArt Gallery. He then moved onto Leeds Polytechnic (now Leeds Beckett University) to finish his course. Finding it interesting, he taught himself gilding.

To read more about Rob Oldfield’s talk, pick up a copy of the paper from your nearest stockist.
