The meeting was started with several tempting offers from this month’s newsletter, including lunches, rambles, a treasure hunt, quiz and another Gliding Taster Session.

The Spring bulb catalogues were available for perusal.

Several members paid their annual subscriptions, which are due in April.

A date was given for the next garden club meeting in June. The cricket teas rota list was started for members to fill in to do a turn for this season.

Our speaker for the evening was Rob Oldfield explaining the art of gilding.

Rob told us that after a period in the Merchant Navy he was doing jobs on farms and anything else he could find, when someone told him there was such a place as Art School.

He couldn’t wait to enrol in York, at the school next to the Art Gallery, where he did a foundation year, moving on to Leeds Polytechnic to finish his course. Finding it interesting he taught himself gilding.
