The Easingwold Advertiser & Weekly News is a family-owned paper for Easingwold and the surrounding area

Saturday 30th March, 2024

The Easingwold Galtres Centre was packed with singers and supporters on Friday night, enjoying a celebration of all things singing at ‘The Singers of Songs’ event.

The Easingwold Community Singers (ECS) are an inclusive mixed community choir based in Easingwold, who meet on Wednesday evenings to sing an array of songs in three-part harmony.

The group has grown in strength and depth since the post-Covid return to in-person singing, growing to over 50 members for the first time in recent history.

Only a few weeks ago, ECS put on a fantastic performance at the York Community Choir Festival at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre.

The festival is a non-competitive celebration of the huge range of choirs in the York area, allowing groups to watch each other’s performances.

ECS were praised by organisers and audience members for their choice of uplifting songs, harmonies and expression of each song’s message.

Helmsley Arts Centre Singers, another friendly group with a similar ethos, meet at Helmsley on Mondays. As the two groups share a similar repertoire, it seemed appropriate to bring the groups together in a joint performance.
