I guess you think the Gardening Club, now the talks programme is out of the way until September, that it has gone to sleep until then.
Especially after the very wet down to merely wet, Sutton Open Gardens over the late May Bank Holiday. Not surprisingly the attendance was down somewhat on our last Open Gardens held in 2022.
We’ve not been sleeping, not even napping. We’ve already had a pair of outings and are just about recovering from the excitement of a great day out, admiring other people’s hard work and enthusiasm for gardening.
We visited Cliff Bank Nusery, at the “other” Huby, on the way to Leeds - Bradford airport.
This nursery was rescued from dereliction by Ben Preston, former head gardener at Yorkgate at Adel, Leeds one of the Club’s favourites.
He was previously at a string of top gardens, with a year spent at Great Dixter, probably the top UK garden, so he has gone to Cliff Bank with great ideas and had been busy rescuing it from six-foot-high brambles, helped by a couple of industrious pigs as well as escaped farm animals.
