The Easingwold Advertiser & Weekly News is a family-owned paper for Easingwold and the surrounding area
On Saturday, 8th June, the Easingwold community came together to honour the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings in a D-Day remembrance service. The community commemorated the sacrifices of Allied troops and the efforts of the free world.
The event was organised by members of the Easingwold branch of the Royal British Legion, including John Walker, John Cleaver and the vicar of Easingwold, Reverend Margaret Young. There was a short service of remembrance followed by the laying of wreaths at the war memorial in Easingwold Market Place.
In addition to the sizable gathering of local people, in attendance were Peter Nottage, the mayor of Easingwold, and David Kenworthy, the deputy lieutenant of North Yorkshire. The group of readers, wreath layers, standard bearers and musicians included Jim Cartwright, John Sutherland, Andy Waller, Phil Birkinshaw, Ian Peel, Rachael Blueman, Peter Coomer and Isaac Levitt.
