Pool Trophy...

Saturday 1st June, 2024

This bank holiday weekend saw the revival of an old pool tournament – an event that remains very close to people’s hearts.

Courtesy of Darren Teale and John Shepherd, the Kevin Morley under-16’s pool trophy competition was played for by a number of youngsters last weekend.

Kevin Morley unfortunately lost his life before finishing secondary school in a tragic car accident. The pool competition was established in his memory in the 1980’s and was played for a number of years.

Unfortunately, following refurbishments of Stillington Sports Club, the original trophies went missing. Darren and John, however, were very keen to bring this competition back as Kevin was a close friend.

A previous competition participant, Adam Lund, recalls entering as a young child and rushing from football to try his hand in the tournament. You may recognise Lund as the Alfreton Town Football Club midfielder and current IPA European champion!

On Friday evening, Callum Magrath won against Conor Petch, and Jack Baine beat Ben Dransfield.

The following evening Cohen Shepherd beat Seth Goodwin and Will Piercy beat Oli Shepherd, both 3 - 0 in the quarter finals.
