The Easingwold Town Band performed on Sunday rather than the usual Saturday this week due to the craft market. It was a very warm sunny afternoon in Easingwold Market Place, and the music created a lovely traditional atmosphere.
Outside the pubs and cafés the tables were busy, and audience chairs (kindly lent by the Galtres Centre) were in constant use. People came to listen for a while, sitting or standing in the sun or in the shade of the Town Hall.
Some moved on, others stayed for the whole performance. We didn’t count them, but there were a lot!
Conducted by its musical director Peter Andrews, the Band kicked off in emphatic style with the stamping pasa doble rhythm of ‘Ballerina’, followed by a vigorous selection from ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’.
After the syncopated swing of ‘Misty Eyes’ by Derek Broadbent, featuring Amanda Prosser on solo trombone, came ‘I Will Follow Him’ from the classic 1992 American film comedy ‘Sister Act’.
A change of pace, with an arrangement of the traditional melody ‘Swedish Hymn’, preceded a return to rustic America with part 1 of ‘Appalachian Mountain Folk Song Suite'.
