On Sunday 9th July, 2023, Stillington Cricket Club Ladies took on the Hutton Rudby Cricket Club Ladies.
A very hot, muggy afternoon saw Stillington Ladies play their debut softball cricket match against Hutton Rudby down at the Stillington Oval.
Stillington Cricket Club's softball team was formed last season, coached by Rich Coultous.
Softball cricket is a short format of cricket, designed to give every player a fair opportunity to bat, bowl and field.
The team consists of ten players who start with 200 runs and bat for 20 overs. Runs are scored in the usual way, with each pair of players batting for four overs and five runs being deducted for a batter being out.
Stillington fielded first, with notable bowling performances from Laura Milburn who took a wicket with her very first ball and Georgia Foster’s strong arm holding up the runs.
Out in the field, Sarah Potts, Susan Denny, Grace Mook and Abby Hill all took one catch each.
Hutton Rudby, who are an experienced league side, batted well but Stilly held them to 281 after 20 over.
