Another Saturday afternoon beckoned, and for this week’s Summer of Music, it was the turn of Easingwold’s very own songstress and singing leader, Jessa Liversidge.
After waiting a few minutes until the departure Saturday Tractor Run whose 18 members had parked in the market square, Jessa sat at her keyboard under the Buttercross. She told the large crowd present that the first half of the concert would comprise of Jessa singing a number of well-known songs to which we were all encouraged to sing along.
For the second half she would be joined by members of her Community Choir. Jessa sang a varied list of popular music including the Beatles Here Comes the Sun (and it did!), Stand by Me by Ben E King, Top of the World by The Carpenters, and a beautiful Scottish round with her looping device comprising Flow Gently Sweet Aften, Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond and Danny Boy. All songs were perfectly synchronised and the end result was a delight to the ear.
After a short break, Jessa was joined by her Community Choir. They all sang with great enthusiasm, much to the delight of the many watching from the sidelines and cafes as well as in The George and The York opposite – and indeed a good number sat on the Market Green!
Their first number was a multi layered vocal piece which originated as a Zulu song which was very well interpreted and delivered.
