Bagby International Gets Planning ...

Saturday 18th January, 2025

Bagby airfield (or Bagby International gateway to Northern Europe, "local joke") finally got it's upgrade planning permission from North Yorkshire Council before Christmas, after many years of legal rows, public inquiries and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance moving away from Bagby airfield.

Current owner Mr Martin Scott wants the airfield to move away from amateur general aviation aircraft and microlights and encourage modern turbo-prop aircraft to use Bagby with higher quality facilities as a stepping stone and base for longer haul trips across Britain and abroad.

The upgrades would, according to the applicant, lead to fewer aircraft using the airfield and there by less noise.

I myself have known Bagby airfield since almost it's inception in 1973 as my father would often take me, my sister or brother with him when he flew his two seat Jodel light aircraft there from his base at Tholthorpe airfield.
