With the background of ever increasing global popularity of parkrun organizers were delighted with the success over the festive period at Millfield (Easingwold) parkrun.
Beginning on the 21st December participants were encouraged to walk, jog or run the free 5km in the Fabulous Festive Four including the now traditional Christmas Day and New Years Day events.
Who would be at all four in either a volunteering role or as a participant?
The 21st saw many in festive attire among the 245 finishers headed home by Finn Pomfrett and Sarah Sigsworth in good weather conditions, making a great start to the Festive period. Steph Cooper, an Easingwold Running Club member, made this her 300th event.
Christmas Day parkrun is becoming ever more popular and is a fabulous way for many to start the important day with such a lovely atmosphere.
It really is something special with most wearing some kind of Christmas themed outfit for the event.
Several Santa's, Elves, lots of Red and even a Christmas Cracker were in evidence.
The boom of Christmas Day parkrun reached another level this year with 311 finishers all encouraged home by the 21 volunteers who made sure everything went safely and smoothly before clearing away and going home to enjoy Christmas Dinner.
This figure set a new attendance record for Millfield parkrun beating the 290 set on the 6th January 2024.
An amazing response, how could that be topped?
Incredibly it wasn't topped but was matched with the same number of 311 finishers on the 28th December with the usual gender split of around 50 - 50 and all ages from under 10 to over 80.
