Last Saturday saw 1st Kyle Valley Scouts out in force collecting Christmas trees from around the District. It was a very wet but not particularly cold day.
The Scouts were out and about bright and early in their respective towns and villages gathering the pre-booked trees and piling them on village greens.
This tested their navigation skills and initiative as some of the trees were very hard to locate, it’s amazing how they blend into the landscape so well.
The leaders meanwhile were close behind, gathering up the assembled trees in a lorry and two pick up trucks to be taken to Dawnay Farm for mulching.
We all worked our socks off and were sodden to the bone despite waterproof clothing. Handling wet trees continually defeats even the best outdoor clothing!
By 2pm we had gathered over 160 trees for recycling and made £1,000 for our group........
