The Easingwold Open Triples 2025 ...

Saturday 8th February, 2025

The 28th Annual Easingwold Open Bowls: Triples Short Mat Competition took place on Saturday, 1st February. Attendees played for the Jack Freeman Trophy and prize money of £60, £30 and £15 for the first three places.

Over a hundred bowlers from all over North Yorkshire and Durham, as well as two teams from Norfolk, travelled to the excellent facilities at the Galtres Centre to take part in the open bowls competition.

Each of the 34 teams played five games of 40 minutes duration in alternate sessions. Two points were awarded for a win and one point for a draw.

If there was a tie at the end of the day, then the cumulative shot difference over the five games would decide the winner.

There were lots of closely fought games throughout the day and at the halfway stage, only five teams remained unbeaten.

By the final matches, the number of bowlers were reduced to just the triples of Steve Duffin and Dennis Thornburn. On the sidelines, five other teams with only one defeat were waiting for them to slip up. Both teams withstood the pressure to remain undefeated throughout the day. Once the shot differences were calculated, the first three places were awarded as follows:

Winners: Steve Duffin, James Clark, Lilly Duffin. 10 points, + 42 shots.

Runners Up: Dennis Thornburn, Elaine Thornburn, Vi Garbut. 10 points, + 27 shots.

Third place: Steve Finch, Janet Clark, Jill Hall. 8 points, + 33 shots.
