Last Friday the latest winter storm named "Éowyn" blew in, thankfully once again Easingwold & District did not bear brunt, with Northern Ireland, Western Scotland, Western England and Wales suffering a much worse fate.
Although the wind round here did not reach 100mph it was still quite bad with gusts up to 60mph and we still had quite a bit of damage plus a number of power cuts across the region.
On Long Street, Easingwold parents & children had to take to the grass on the early morning school run as Storm Éowyn brought down a large branch over the pathway. By the time Jet the dog (head of security at G H Smith & Son) went to take a look at 9.30am a North Yorkshire Council worker was already on scene with a trusty bow saw clearing the path.
Husthwaite Road just outside Easingwold was blocked with a fallen tree and that scene seemed to be repeated right across the region, with fallen trees, damaged fences and debris strewn all over.
At lunchtime the power went out in most parts of Easingwold and surrounding villages such as Stillington, Crayke and Alne.
