Shipton Wildflower Woods...

Saturday 18th February, 2023

Last Saturday, two residents from Shipton by Beningbrough spent an enjoyable few hours in the Long Street (Easingwold) branch of the Co-op.

There to tell the shoppers about Shipton’s new initiative, ‘Shipton Wildflower Woods’, they described to shoppers the Woods location and explained the land preparation and the planting regime.

Good sports of all ages joined in the session by having their picture taken in the Woods Fundraising Tree.

The land, a 3-acre plot belonging to the Shipton Parish Council, is located behind the Shipton Community Centre.

With the assistance of the Woodland Trust and advice from Huby’s Forest of Flowers, the land will soon have wildflowers sown in it and, in the autumn, saplings planted.

Residents of Shipton of all ages are involved with the scheme and are currently fundraising to purchase the wildflower seed. Our fundraising tree shows that £2,500 has been raised.
