For Newton Allotments, sited on Back Lane, the year follows a seasonal pattern and 2022 was no exception.
As the weather started to improve digging and planting began in earnest in order to be ready for the annual judging of plots in July.
Judging takes note of maintenance and tidiness of each plot, together with the quality and variety of the crops it produces.
The winner receives the Bradam Cup along with the princely sum of £15 with second and third prizes of £10 and £5.
Coming in first in 2022 were Mick and Sue Chadwick, with Robert and Lesley Lockwood in second place, and Sally Harland claiming third prize.
The Allotments Association holds an annual Produce and Flower Stall which was successful in raising funds in 2022 towards newly installed water troughs.
he event held in August, to coincide with National Allotment Week occurred in the summer heatwave but was a success with record takings. Look out for next summer’s event........
