The cast iron prism-shaped milestone on Long Street marking the distance of Easingwold to York got a makeover at the weekend.

A member of the Milestone Society, in high-vis vest, came to apply more white paint to the cleaned down metal he had prepared the previous day. He added a top coat of white and later the raised letters and numerals were given their black paint coating to ensure travellers know how far it is from Easingwold to York, Thirsk, or London.

The Milestone Society has volunteers who check on the condition of milestones periodically and they repaint the mileposts when needed.
