The cast iron prism shaped milestone on Long Street, Easingwold got a makeover at the weekend.
A member of the Milestone Society, in high vis vest, came to apply more white paint to the cleaned down metal he had prepared the previous day, and he added a top coat of white, and later, the raised letters and numerals were given their black paint coating to ensure travellers know how far it is to York or to Thirsk, and how far their extended journey might be to reach the capital city; London.
The Milestone Society has volunteers who check on the condition of milestones periodically and they repaint strings of mileposts when the weather is suitable and the need is obvious.
