Ann Simpson from the New Earswick Flower Club came to Easingwold on Thursday, March 28th to give a superb demonstration celebrating the subtle changes in the styles of flower arranging from 1980 to the present.

In 1988 Queen Elizabeth II visited York Minster to dedicate the new roof after the disastrous fire in 1984. Ann depicted a table centre arrangement with a circle of ivy leaves and the centre filled with white lisianthus, yellow roses, a few white spray carnations and some short gypsophila.

The 1990's brought the rising popularity of the 'parallel' design. Representing this style, Ann filled a long tray with water retaining foam. She then placed three to four lengths of dogwood on one end and pussy willow stems towards the other end.

Her foliage included separated rubus leaves, small begonias, some purple hebe, euonymus and garyeliptica. She placed a few pink carnation heads in the centre, surrounding them with cerise coloured anemones and blue hyacinths.
