Last week, two hybrid wickets were installed at Easingwold Cricket Club. This is a process where 2,500 leaves of plastic grass per sq. metre, are stitched into the existing grass playing surface. This gives it strength and durability, meaning that the hybrid wickets can be played on for up to eight times in a season, instead of once or twice on a conventional all grass pitch. Now, many more games can be played.
The Friends of St Monica’s have generously funded this from their sport, fitness and community budget.
Ian Jackson, chair of St. Monica’s Hospital Grants Committee said, “We’ve had very positive discussions with the Cricket Club about how we can help getting more young people, both boys and girls, into the game locally.
The physical, mental and social benefits can be significant, and it's another step on the path we are building towards a healthy local community.”
Ian Connell, Chairman of Easingwold Cricket Club commented, “As a community sports clubs continue their recovery from Covid, ECC is introducing a 3rd Saturday XI, together with new age grade teams to provide opportunities for our growing boys and girls junior section.
